    About the role

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our up-and-coming mortgage insurance company. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting strategic decision making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting, particularly within the P&C or mortgage insurance sector, and a deep understanding of statutory and GAAP reporting.

     

    What you'll do

    • General Accounting: Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. Assist in conducting complex accounting analyses and preparing supporting memos as required.
    • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant insurance regulations, including state and federal reporting requirements.
    • Internal Controls: Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. Identify process improvement opportunities and assist in implementing best practices.
    • Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and provide any necessary documentation.
    • Team Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on complex accounting issues.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
    • 3 – 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics is a plus) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and insurance regulations.
    • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
