Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant – Public Sector, onsite in Vancouver, WA

A well-regarded public service agency is seeking a knowledgeable Senior Accountant to provide oversight across diverse financial activities, including general ledger oversight, payroll review, financial reporting, budgeting, and year-end procedures. In this role, you will guide and authorize a wide array of accounting functions, working in close partnership with Finance and Human Resources. The right candidate will bring proven experience in fund/governmental accounting, payroll processes, financial reconciliations, and managing the financial operations of multiple entities.

Primary Duties:

• 
  
• Review and approve work completed by Accounting Specialists, including:
• 
  
  • 
    
  • Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable batches
  • 
    
  • Manual batches and journal entries
  • 
    
  • Cash receipts and monthly credit card activity
  • 
    
  • Monthly excise tax filings
  • 
    
  
  
• Complete monthly cash reconciliations and support timely month-end close.
• 
  
• Serve as back-up reviewer for Accounting Assistant tasks and Board-related reports.
• 
  
• Provide payroll support twice monthly:
• 
  
  • 
    
  • Payroll review and meetings with Finance & HR
  • 
    
  • PERS analysis and reporting
  • 
    
  
  
• Support annual budget development and upload.
• 
  
• Lead year-end close activities:
• 
  
  • 
    
  • Close-and-roll for multiple entities
  • 
    
  • Prepare or review annual financial statements
  • 
    
  • Support W-2 and 1099 filing processes
  • 
    
  
  

Qualifications:

• 
  
• Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, ideally within the public or nonprofit sector.
• 
  
• Strong grasp of payroll systems and public retirement plans (e.g., PERS).
• 
  
• Solid background in budgeting, reconciliations, and the production of year-end financial reports.
• 
  
• Ability to manage projects independently while collaborating with cross-departmental teams such as HR and operations.
• 
  
• High level of precision, analytical thinking, and professional communication.
• 
  

$80,000 - $90,000
