The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing advanced accounting support and oversight within a growing organization. This role partners closely with the accounting and finance team to support internal operations and external reporting requirements. Leads key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports. Serves as a key contributor in audit activities and ensures compliance with US GAAP. Maintains a strong understanding of accounting standards and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial results.
- Prepare and review asset, liability, revenue, and expense journal entries by analyzing account activity and trends.
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet and expense account reconciliations; identify and resolve variances.
- Analyze financial results and provide insights to support business decisions.
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Lead preparation of internal and external financial reporting packages.
- Support and coordinate external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Research and apply US GAAP to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions.
- Assist in strengthening and maintaining internal controls and compliance processes.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced accounting staff as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully; however, an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience may be considered.
Education, Training, Certifications:
- High school diploma, or equivalent, required.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:
- 5 - 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial close and reporting responsibilities, or experience within a public accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to apply accounting guidance in practice.
- Experience reviewing work, improving processes, and identifying efficiencies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders.
Systems and Software Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems preferred.
