    Description

This Senior Accountant will step into a highly visible, hands-on role with ownership over some of the most important areas of the accounting function: the balance sheet, audit readiness, fixed assets, accruals, and period-end accuracy.

Our client is looking for an experienced accountant who can take an issue from identification through resolution without requiring step-by-step direction. There is meaningful work to build and improve here. The right person will bring accounting discipline to existing processes, establish reliable schedules and supporting documentation, and help create an environment where leadership can trust that the numbers are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.

Our client is a privately held, founder-led food distribution and wholesale organization operating at significant scale. The accounting team supports a high-volume business where transactions move quickly and accuracy still matters. This opportunity is particularly well suited for an accountant who remains composed when priorities compete, knows how to investigate what does not look right, and enjoys building better processes rather than simply maintaining them.

    In this role, you will…

    • Own balance sheet integrity by preparing and reviewing reconciliations across cash, credit cards, accruals, receivables, fixed assets, allowances, and other key accounts; investigate discrepancies and drive them through resolution.
    • Prepare the organization for audit by building reliable schedules, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and procedures while partnering with the outside CPA through the financial statement audit process.
    • Build and maintain a dependable fixed asset system, including equipment and vehicle records, asset tagging, depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and analysis of repairs versus capital improvements.
    • Drive accurate period-end accounting by preparing journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, amortization schedules, and other month-end and year-end activity so transactions are captured in the appropriate accounting period.
    • Analyze the general ledger and underlying activity to identify incomplete, inaccurate, or unsupported transactions before they become larger reporting or audit issues.
    • Strengthen accounting procedures and controls by identifying gaps, improving documentation, standardizing reconciliations, and implementing more reliable ways of working.
    • Take ownership of accounting projects with limited supervision, including system implementations, fixed asset initiatives, audit preparation, and other areas where the accounting function needs greater structure and consistency.

    What we’re looking for

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
    • Progressive accounting experience with the depth to independently manage general ledger and balance sheet accounting.
    • Strong hands-on experience preparing and reconciling balance sheet accounts, including accruals, cash, credit cards, fixed assets, and other receivables.
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation and work effectively with outside auditors or CPAs.
    • Strong understanding of month-end and year-end close, journal entries, accrual accounting, cut-off, and proper period recognition.
    • Ability to investigate accounting discrepancies, determine root causes, and implement corrections without relying on constant direction.
    • Intermediate to advanced Excel capabilities, including PivotTables, lookups, complex formulas, and working with larger datasets.

This role is for an accountant who sees an unreconciled account, incomplete schedule, or inefficient process and knows how to bring it to a reliable conclusion. You will have guidance when needed, but the expectation is that you can own your work, make sound accounting decisions, and keep moving when the pace increases.

If that combination of autonomy, accounting depth, and opportunity to build is the next step you are looking for, we welcome a confidential conversation.
