Senior Accountant
North Houston | Hybrid Schedule
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a well-established organization with a strong, collaborative culture. This position reports to the Accounting Manager and will support the companys financial reporting, month-end close, inventory accounting, and internal control processes.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable partnering with both accounting and operational teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage key month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis, and financial reviews.
- Prepare and review supporting schedules for financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and investigate unusual balances or variances.
- Support intercompany accounting, payroll-related reporting, lease accounting, and other assigned accounting processes.
- Perform inventory and cost accounting activities, including reconciliations, costing analysis, reserves, and inventory reporting.
- Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle count processes.
- Analyze work-in-process, inventory levels, inventory turns, and cost variances.
- Partner with operational teams to improve inventory controls and accounting processes.
- Help identify and resolve financial reporting or reconciliation issues.
- Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls.
- Recommend improvements to accounting procedures, reporting, and workflows.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting required.
- At least three years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statements.
- Inventory or cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with work-in-process or percentage-of-completion accounting is a plus.
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
- Experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to analyze financial information and clearly communicate findings.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to work effectively with accounting, finance, and operational teams.
- Proactive, curious, and interested in improving processes.
