Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, confident, and business-minded accounting professional to join our team as an Assistant Controller. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant or emerging accounting leader who enjoys hands-on accounting responsibilities while also partnering with executive leadership to support financial analysis and business decisions.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with fixed assets, capital expenditures (CapEx), general ledger accounting, and month-end close. Beyond technical accounting skills, this individual must be an excellent communicator who can confidently present financial information, explain complex findings, and work directly with executive teams.

This role offers a blend of day-to-day accounting, financial analysis, and executive-level interaction, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and advance into a broader accounting leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day general accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.

  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including asset tracking, capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliation of fixed asset accounts.

  • Track, analyze, and report on capital expenditures (CapEx), ensuring proper accounting treatment and accurate financial reporting.

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.

  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, investigate discrepancies, and communicate actionable insights.

  • Work directly with executive leadership to discuss financial performance, explain results, and support strategic decision-making.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations that communicate financial information clearly and confidently to executive and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with operational and cross-functional teams to understand financial performance and support business objectives.

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and financial analysis as needed.

  • Maintain accurate financial records and support strong internal controls and compliance with applicable accounting standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.

  • Gradually assume additional responsibilities in accounting oversight, process improvement, and leadership as the business evolves.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Progressive accounting experience, ideally as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, or Assistant Controller.

  • Required hands-on experience with fixed assets and capital expenditures (CapEx).

  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.

  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements and management reports.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, investigate variances, and communicate findings.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to executive leadership.

  • Professional presence and confidence when interacting with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to balance detailed, hands-on accounting work with broader financial analysis and business partnership.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • A proactive mindset and interest in developing into a future accounting leadership role.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can comfortably move between the details of accounting and the bigger picture of business performance. They enjoy working through general ledger activity, fixed assets, and CapEx while also being comfortable presenting results, answering executive questions, and making recommendations.

We are looking for a well-spoken, confident, and analytical professional who takes ownership of their work, builds credibility with leadership, and is motivated to grow beyond a traditional Senior Accountant position.

Prior people-management experience is not required; the ability and desire to grow into a leadership role are important.

Compensation & Opportunity

  • $90,000–$110,000 annual base salary, depending on experience.

  • Bonus opportunity.

  • Direct-hire, full-time opportunity.

  • Fully onsite in Trussville, Alabama.

  • High visibility and direct interaction with executive leadership.

  • Opportunity for long-term career growth into accounting management or Controller-level leadership.
