Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Take the Lead in a High-Impact Accounting Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our client's team in Abilene, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys combining hands-on financial analysis with leadership, compliance, budgeting, and process improvement.

In this role, you will manage complex accounting activities, lead critical financial close processes, support budgeting and forecasting, and serve as a key fiscal resource for accounting and program teams. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of GAAP, governmental or grant accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and internal controls.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare, review, and approve complex accounting entries and reconciliations.

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.

  • Monitor contract expenditures and assist with spending plans and budget forecasts.

  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory and contractual compliance.

  • Prepare and support financial reports, budget reports, grant reports, and related documentation.

  • Serve as a lead resource for Accountants, providing training, technical assistance, and guidance.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting procedures and internal controls.

  • Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve fiscal matters.

  • Coordinate and prepare documentation for audits, monitoring reviews, and fiscal assessments.

  • Research complex accounting issues and recommend process improvements that strengthen efficiency and compliance.

  • Assist management with budget development, budget amendments, and expenditure projections.

  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, and other assigned fiscal activities.

  • Serve as the primary fiscal contact for assigned programs, contracts, or locations.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.

  • Prefer 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within governmental, nonprofit, grant-funded, or workforce development environments.

  • Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.

  • Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and budget analyses is required.

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GAAP.

  • Knowledge of governmental and grant accounting principles.

  • Knowledge of budget control methods, fiscal policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to Workforce Solutions contracts.

  • Knowledge of the Financial Manual for Grants and Contracts, FMGC.

  • Advanced analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to interpret accounting standards, laws, regulations, policies, and contractual requirements.

  • Experience developing or implementing accounting procedures and internal controls.

  • Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to fiscal staff.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with management, coworkers, funding agencies, auditors, and the public.

  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting Software.

  • CPA credential or progress toward CPA certification.

  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills.
