SECURITY SERVICE TECHNICIAN

The Security Service Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and integrated low-voltage systems, while serving as the primary field interface for customer service to ensure systems operate reliably and meet performance expectations. This role manages service calls, troubleshooting, and system optimization with full ownership of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, requiring technical expertise to interpret schematics, diagnose issues, and implement solutions across multiple platforms. The technician supports system upgrades, integrations, and database management, ensures compliance with applicable codes and company procedures, and collaborates with Project Managers, Operations, and engineering teams on project execution, commissioning, and documentation. This position also mentors junior technicians and supports continuous improvement to strengthen long-term customer relationships. Reports to: Operations Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Advanced Technical Expertise
  • Ability to install, program, commission, troubleshoot, and service access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and integrated low-voltage systems
  • Strong working knowledge of platforms such as Lenel OnGuard, Milestone, Axis, and other leading security technologies
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills using test equipment and diagnostic tools to isolate and resolve system and network issues
  • Understanding of system topology, device communication, and integration with customer networks (IP addressing, VLANs, bandwidth, etc.)
  • Experience with electronic locking hardware including strikes, maglocks, exit devices, and door hardware integration
  • Customer Focus and Service Ownership
  • Act as the primary field interface for service calls, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Take full ownership of onsite service work including safety, quality, and system performance
  • Provide customer training, system demonstrations, and ongoing technical support
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, and service enhancements
  • System Programming & Commissioning
  • Perform system programming, database management, graphics development, and configuration
  • Commission new systems and verify performance through testing and certification
  • Analyze system performance and implement corrective actions for deficiencies
  • Support system upgrades, migrations, and integrations
  • Project & Service Coordination
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Operations to support project execution and service delivery
  • Assist with preparation of deliverables including submittals, as-builts, and closeout documentation
  • Support scheduling, service tracking, and documentation of work performed
  • Identify risks, communicate issues, and assist in resolving project or service challenges
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Perform all work in accordance with company standards, safety policies, and applicable codes (NFPA, NEC, local regulations)
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure systems meet project specifications
  • Promote a strong safety culture and maintain awareness on active job sites
  • Team Support & Mentorship
  • Mentor and support junior technicians and apprentices
  • Provide guidance on troubleshooting, programming, and installation best practices
  • Assist in training and development of team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years of Electronic Security background.
  • Hold specified certifications in Lenel, Milestone and Axis
  • NFP70, OSHA30, CEDIA, CPR/First Aid, manufacturer certifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint.
  • Strong troubleshooting and programming experience with access control and video systems
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, switches, routers)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Must pass 7-year background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Associate degree or technical school certificate.
  • Low-voltage installation experience in commercial environments.
  • General construction knowledge and blueprint reading.
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience leading several technicians or subcontractors across multiple job sites.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
