Job Description:

The Security Program Specialist supports the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of LSU's campus-wide video surveillance and physical security systems. Working under the direction of the Police Lieutenant, this position administers surveillance platforms, monitors system performance, coordinates maintenance and installation projects, provides technical troubleshooting and field support, and develops recommendations to improve system reliability and effectiveness. The position serves as a technical resource for campus stakeholders and collaborates with vendors, contractors, ITS personnel, and university departments to support the University's public safety objectives.

Job Responsibilities

Surveillance System Administration and Operations (35%)

  • Administers the University's video surveillance management systems and associated security technologies.
  • Monitors system health and performance, maintains system configurations and user permissions, develops operational standards and documentation, and ensures systems remain functional and aligned with departmental objectives.
  • Assists with video retrieval requests, system audits, reporting requirements, and support of related public safety technologies as assigned.

Technical Troubleshooting and Field Support (25%)

  • Performs advanced troubleshooting, repair coordination, and field support for surveillance cameras and associated infrastructure.
  • Diagnoses operational issues, validates system functionality, coordinates corrective actions with vendors and ITS personnel, and ensures timely restoration of services.

Installation and Lifecycle Management (15%)

  • Manages planning, implementation, replacement, and expansion of surveillance technologies.
  • Coordinates installation activities, evaluates equipment performance, and maintains inventory and lifecycle records
  • Supports capital improvement and construction projects involving physical security systems.

Program Development and Process Improvement (15%)

  • Identifies opportunities to improve surveillance operations, system reliability, documentation, workflows, and maintenance practices.
  • Develops procedures, standards, and best practices to support efficient operation of physical security technologies.

Stakeholder Coordination and Support (10%)

  • Serves as a technical liaison between LSU Police, university departments, contractors, vendors, and ITS personnel regarding surveillance system operations, projects, and service requests.
  • Provides technical guidance and communicates system capabilities, limitations, and operational requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

Additional Information

  • Work is primarily a day schedule (40-hour work week with one-hour lunch).
  • Occasional nights and weekends are required. All LSU home football games and major Tiger Stadium events are likely to be worked.
  • Must be able to routinely travel across campus on foot and/or by vehicle to perform field troubleshooting.
  • This position will require a physical evaluation based on the required physical demands.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience

Specific Experience: Some experience in troubleshooting hardware and software issues for both video and access control systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with video surveillance systems and VMS platforms (Avigilon preferred).
  • Experience with basic network troubleshooting concepts (connectivity, PoE, patching) and/or structured cabling practices.
  • Experience coordinating technical work with a NOC or similar operational support team.
  • Experience supporting lifecycle replacement programs or new technology installations.
