Security Officer

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Public Safety Manager, the Public Safety Officer is responsible for protecting the life, safety, and property of patients, visitors, physicians, employees, volunteers, contractors, and all individuals on hospital property.

The Public Safety Officer provides a highly visible presence throughout the hospital and its affiliated properties while maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. Responsibilities include emergency response, de-escalation of disruptive situations, workplace violence prevention, access control, investigations, patrol functions, emergency preparedness, and customer service. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain professionalism under stressful situations, and perform all duties in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws.

Public Safety Officers must possess exceptional communication and de-escalation skills and be prepared to safely intervene and control violent or combative behavior when necessary, utilizing approved training, defensive tactics, and the least restrictive means appropriate to the situation.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
• Experience: Two to five (2-5) years of experience in the field of law enforcement, security operations, or a related field is required. Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
• Licensure/ Certifications: A current Basic Life Support (CPR) American Red Cross or American Heart Association Provider certification or a CPI certification is preferred.
• Other: Must be able to successfully clear a background check, including a criminal search. Use or possession of a firearm and/or other weapons is prohibited.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.

Preferred

• Experience in public safety, law enforcement, military, healthcare public safety, corrections, emergency services, or a related field
• Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
