    Security Guard (Contract-to-Hire) - 2nd Shift
    Location: Grand Rapids, MI
    Job Type: 1-Year Contract-to-Hire
    Shift: 2nd Shift | 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

    Our global manufacturing client is seeking a dependable, customer-focused Security Guard to join their Corporate Security team in Grand Rapids, MI. This is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career with a world-class organization that values safety, professionalism, and continuous development.  This position begins as a one-year contract with the opportunity to convert to a direct hire position based on performance and business needs. During the initial onboarding period, you will receive hands-on training focused on physical security responsibilities before expanding into additional operational support within the Security Operations Center.

    Schedule
    This position follows a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays:
    • 7 consecutive days on
    • 2 days off (Wednesday & Thursday)
    • 8 consecutive days on
    • 4 days off (Saturday-Tuesday)

    Regular Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

    Training Requirement:
    Candidates must be available for 1-2 weeks of first shift training (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) during onboarding.

    Position Overview
    As a Security Guard, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and company assets. You will respond to incidents, conduct facility patrols, monitor security systems, perform inspections, and partner with multiple departments to support workplace safety and operational excellence.
    Initial training will focus primarily on physical security responsibilities, including patrols, inspections, security audits, and emergency response. As you become proficient in the role, additional responsibilities will include guard shack operations, Security Operations Center (SOC) support, and access control functions.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Respond as first on-scene support for medical, fire, environmental, and security-related emergencies.
    • Conduct routine patrols of facilities and company property to maintain a safe and secure environment.
    • Perform facility inspections along with weekly and monthly security and safety audits.
    • Monitor security systems, alarms, cameras, and Life Safety systems through the Security Operations Center.
    • Support daily security operations including visitor processing, badge administration, trailer check-ins, multi-line phone support, and report documentation.
    • Exercise sound judgment while working independently to assess situations and respond appropriately.
    • Assist with incident response, de-escalation, and customer service interactions in high-pressure situations.
    • Collaborate with Facilities, Health & Safety, Human Resources, Logistics, Operations, and other internal partners to support coordinated security efforts.
    • Maintain accurate incident reports, documentation, and activity logs.
    • Support onboarding and training initiatives to help integrate new team members.
    • Participate in departmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives as opportunities arise.
    • Learn additional security systems, processes, and operational responsibilities over time.


    Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
    • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Proficient using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to work the established rotating schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
    • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
    • Ability to comply with the company's tobacco-free campus policy.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous experience in security, emergency response, law enforcement, military, corrections, or a customer-facing role.
    • Experience working with security systems, access control systems, surveillance equipment, or multi-line phone systems.
    • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate difficult situations while maintaining professionalism.
    • Experience documenting incidents and preparing accurate written reports.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
    • Willingness to learn new systems, technology, and security procedures in a structured training environment.
