Security Automation Engineer

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Security Automation Engineer for a remote opportunity for candidates working EST hours.Candidate will serve as a hands-on Security Engineer focused on security automation, custom tool development, enterprise integrations, IAM, Linux administration, and cybersecurity operations. The role will support the design, deployment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of security technologies and automated workflows within a large, complex enterprise environment.

Required Qualifications of the Security Automation Engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, or a related field; 8+ years of relevant experience may substitute for education.
• 5+ years of experience supporting large-scale IT environments, cybersecurity technologies, software development, system deployments, or related technical operations.
• Hands-on experience with security engineering, enterprise cybersecurity platforms, system integrations, and security operations.
• Advanced experience developing automation and security workflows using Python, PowerShell, Bash, REST APIs, JSON, YAML, and/or vendor SDKs.
• Experience integrating enterprise technologies through APIs, SDKs, web services, authentication methods, structured data, and vendor-supported interfaces.
• Strong Linux administration experience, including deployment, configuration, patching, scripting, monitoring, troubleshooting, service management, and lifecycle support.
• Experience with source control, software testing, application deployment, error handling, and production support practices.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across applications, operating systems, networks, identity services, security platforms, APIs, and technology integrations.
• Working knowledge of IAM, incident response, access control, secure software development, security architecture, and cybersecurity frameworks.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Security Automation Engineer:

• CISSP, Security+, GIAC, or comparable cybersecurity certification.
• Certifications or specialized experience in Linux, Python, cloud, IAM, or security engineering.
• Experience supporting enterprise security technologies such as Palo Alto Networks, Proofpoint, Tenable, Cribl, WhatsUp Gold, SIEM, SOAR, XDR, DSPM, ASM, or comparable platforms.
• Experience with Docker, Linux-based security sensors, monitoring platforms, internal web applications, APIs, databases, and command-line tools.
• Experience creating security playbooks, runbooks, procedures, technical documentation, and analyst enablement materials.
• Background supporting SOC analysts, incident responders, security engineers, or customers within large, shared-services, managed-services, or multi-tenant environments.

Responsibilities of the Security Automation Engineer:

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain security automations, Python applications, scripts, APIs, dashboards, command-line utilities, and enterprise system integrations.
• Build automated workflows supporting alert enrichment, incident triage, response, case management, notifications, escalation, containment, reporting, and vulnerability analysis.
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux systems, containers, security sensors, collectors, connectors, applications, and data-processing services.
• Support IAM functions and integrations, including provisioning, deprovisioning, access reviews, RBAC, service accounts, authentication, authorization, and API credentials.
• Provide engineering and operational support across security platforms including vulnerability management, SIEM, SOAR, endpoint, email, network, cloud, logging, monitoring, and threat intelligence technologies.
• Monitor system and automation health, investigate integration failures and performance issues, participate in incident escalation and on-call support, and contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement.

Work Location: Remote. EST Hours.
