Job Description: This is a hands-on network security role focused on supporting secure network operations, security monitoring, firewall and infrastructure reviews, network security assessments, and cybersecurity compliance activities.
The consultant will work with SCDHHS leadership, business units, partners, and vendors and should be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Required Skills

• BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field; or 5+ years of equivalent experience
• Network-security-centric certification such as PCNSE or CCNA
• 3 5 years of hands-on experience in network design, implementation, or support
• Hands-on experience in IT security or system administration
• Working knowledge of secure network design
• Working knowledge of security architecture
• Experience with compliance tools
• Understanding of data protection and access models
• Ability to analyze logs, alerts, and network telemetry
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

Preferred Skills

• CISSP or Security+
• Experience working in regulatory environments
• Experience supporting Health IT
• Experience supporting State Government
• Familiarity with FISMA
• Familiarity with NIST
• Familiarity with CMS ARC-AMPE
• Familiarity with HIPAA security and privacy standards
• Experience with cloud network security controls in Azure or AWS

Responsibilities

• Investigate and respond to daily network security alerts
• Perform network security assessments for proposed firewall and infrastructure changes
• Conduct technical analysis for network security planning and engineering
• Review connectivity, website-blocking, and firewall-rule requests for security risk
• Analyze on-premise and cloud networks for potential threats
• Develop, review, and analyze network traffic reports
• Monitor emerging threat vectors and recommend countermeasures
• Collaborate with other agency teams to implement security controls
• Support cloud and on-premise network changes and enhancement projects
• Assist with compliance activities involving ARC-AMPE, HIPAA, and SCDIS-200
• Assist with KPI creation and security trend reporting
• Participate in firewall configuration reviews and ruleset recertification
• Provide network-security best-practice guidance to technical teams
• Perform additional SOC duties as assigned
