A hospital-based laboratory network serving more than 250 acute care hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial clients is seeking a Section Coordinator to join its laboratory team in Port Charlotte. This organization plays a vital role in supporting patient care through high-quality diagnostic testing and timely laboratory services.

Position Overview

The Section Coordinator serves as a technical leader within a fast-paced hospital laboratory environment, helping ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and quality of laboratory operations. This role combines hands-on laboratory testing responsibilities with leadership support functions, including staff development, quality assurance, workflow coordination, and regulatory compliance.

Working closely with laboratory leadership, the Section Coordinator helps maintain operational excellence while fostering a collaborative and patient-focused culture throughout the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing and rapid-response procedures in accordance with established protocols.
• Analyze patient specimens and ensure accurate, timely reporting of results.
• Execute and document quality control activities to maintain compliance with laboratory standards.
• Prioritize, perform, or delegate testing activities based on workload demands and staff competencies.
• Support daily laboratory operations and communicate updates to laboratory leadership.
• Assist with staff training, onboarding, and competency assessments.
• Promote compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including CAP requirements.
• Serve as a technical resource and mentor for laboratory personnel.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
• Foster positive working relationships and support a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Science required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology preferred.
• State of Florida Technologist Supervisory License required.
• ASCP certification or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Technologist required.
• Strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting.

Schedule

• Full-time
• Night shift
• Rotating weekends required
