Full Time Secondary Math Instructional Coach

OPPORTUNITY

The Secondary Literacy Instructional Coach plays a critical role in supporting teachers across New York City partner schools to strengthen equitable literacy instruction and improve student outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced secondary Math educator or instructional leader who brings expertise in standards-aligned instruction, culturally responsive pedagogy, and adult learning.

This is a fixed-term W2 role. Renewal is based on district renewals, instructional needs, and organizational priorities. Positions are available in Queens North and Bronx West. Additional districts may become available. 

This role requires NYCPS PETS clearance, and candidates must not have worked in NYCPS within the past year to qualify.

TRAVEL 

This role requires regular in-person coaching in New York City partner schools. On average, you can anticipate 3 weeks per month of travel to assigned schools, providing up to 6 hours of in-person coaching per day.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide High Quality Math Instructional Coaching 

  • Deliver direct instructional coaching aligned to school and district priorities
  • Support teachers in implementing standards-aligned curriculum and research-based Math practices
  • Use data, student work, and observations to develop individualized coaching plans
  • Model evidence-based Math practices and support teachers in improving instructional delivery
  • Coach teachers supporting multilingual learners and students with IEPs

Partner With School Leaders 

  • Collaborate with leaders to identify instructional focus areas
  • Develop strategies to strengthen equitable Math instruction and student achievement
  • Co-design supports aligned to school-level priorities, data, and instructional goals

Lead Professional Learning 

  • Design and facilitate equity-centered professional development for teachers
  • Support teachers in analysis of student data and curriculum implementation
  • A proven track record in lesson internalization support, the ability to model lessons, and facilitating PLCs.

Document & Codify Coaching Work

  • Maintain accurate coaching notes, plans, and partner deliverables
  • Codify tools, resources, and strategies that improve ANet’s coaching model

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • 5+ years of recent 6–12 Math teaching experience with demonstrated student impact
  • 3+ years of instructional coaching or teacher leadership experience, supporting teachers in conceptual/problem-based math settings.
  • NYCPS PETS clearance
  • Must not have worked in NYCPS within the past year to qualify.

COMPETENCIES

In order to be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:

Expertise In Area of Focus

  • Deep expertise in one or more of the following: Illustrative Mathematics (IM), Amplify Desmos, or i-Ready at the middle school level.
  • Proficiency in NYCPS Mathematics Shifts and instructional routines like "Role-play Instructional Routines" and "Lesson Internalization (SWD, ML lens)"
  • Experience implementing high-quality Math curricula
  • An understanding of the specific assessment structures built into the curriculum and its digital platform

Communication

  •  Uses effective written and oral communication with internal staff, teams, and community served; demonstrates empathy and listening

Planning and Prioritizing Work

  • Breaks down a work task/project into process steps and executes them effectively, adjusting course as needed

Critical thinking and Data Orientation

  • Consistently identifies, gathers, and applies relevant information to their work

Experience with instructional tools such as Google Classroom, Class Dojo, or ChatGPT is also preferred.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is between $80,376 - $120,564. New hires will start between the range minimum and midpoint ($80,376 - $100,470) based on qualifications assessed during the hiring process, past experience, and internal equity. In order to uphold our commitment to transparent, equitable, competitive, and sustainable compensation, ANet does not negotiate pay.

Because this role includes direct instructional coaching and partnership work, candidates must disclose any current consulting, contracting, or employment with organizations that provide instructional coaching, curriculum implementation support, or similar services to schools or districts. ANet reviews outside work to ensure there is no conflict of interest with core services or partner relationships. Individuals currently contracting with organizations that are in direct competition with ANet may not be eligible for this role.
