Overview:

General Summary of the Position

 

Under direction from the Head Cook, will perform general cooking duties and help maintain a sanitary and safe kitchen. This position will cover Lead Cook when necessary. The Second Cook will lead the serving table making sure all the plates are correctly served (quantities and presentation).

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

 

  • Prepare and store food in safe and sanitary manner.
  • Supervise plating presentation (arranging, decorating, and presenting food in a way that improves its aesthetic appeal to the diner when served).
  • Make sure all the stations are clean, organized and well presented.
  • Clean and store serving kitchen utensils in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Must ensure that the walk-in cooler and the freezer are kept clean and sanitary.
  • Monitor temperatures daily when Lead Cook is not available.
  • Will help receive the food order each week and ensure accuracy in delivery. Label and keep inventories.
  • In absence of Lead Cook, the Second Cook will schedule and supervise team.
  • In absence of Lead Cook, the Second Cook will Order food and make sure kitchen has the necessary items to operate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Position Requirements

      

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Service oriented attitude.
  • Openness to Active learning and instruction.
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparation of food on a large scale.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Ability to cook in large amounts.
  • Ability to work with and supervise other kitchen staff.
  • Use good judgement and apply cleanliness skills at all times.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Three to Five years’ experience in quantity cooking.

           

 

Special Requirements:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Safety food handling knowledge and have at least a Food Handler Certificate.
  • Must be able to work part time with a dynamic working schedule, mainly on weekends.
