Squash Professional
Reports to: Director of Squash / General Manager
Position Overview
The foundational purpose of a Seattle Athletic Club Squash Professional is to elevate our world-class squash program. This role is integral to our commitment to providing exceptional squash services and fostering a supportive, engaging community for players of all levels. This role not only demands excellence in squash coaching and member engagement, but also contributes directly to the ongoing development, innovation, and growth of the squash department through both individual and collaborative programming efforts.
Success in this role will be evaluated based on member engagement, participation levels, quality of instruction, program consistency, responsiveness, teamwork, professionalism, and contribution to the growth of the squash department.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement and Coaching Excellence
Actively engage with members in the squash areas, providing assistance, club
information, education, and technique correction.
Deliver world-class squash services by scheduling, designing, updating, and executing
individualized coaching programs tailored to clients' abilities, needs, and goals.
Demonstrate exemplary technique and skill to maintain the club's high standards of
instruction.
Maintain a professional, respectful, and member-focused presence at all times, including
during lessons, events, informal court interactions, and communication with members
and staff.
Member Retention and Program Development
Inspire, encourage, and retain club members by guiding them through progression
opportunities appropriate for their skill level.
Conduct new member squash orientations and consultations, assess playing levels,
introduce members to appropriate programs or playing partners, and create a welcoming
entry point into the squash community.
Engage members through participation in programs such as round robins, box leagues,
tournaments, club nights, social events, and new member integration.
Support and contribute to the development of the Youth Squash Program, incorporating
innovative coaching methods to accommodate diverse abilities and learning styles, with
the goal of building a premier youth offering.
Professional Standards and Communication
Uphold and promote high coaching standards in alignment with the club's codes of
conduct, including adherence to policies on equal opportunity, child protection, and
health and safety.
Respond to member emails, calls, and program inquiries in a timely and professional
manner, generally within one business day.
Serve as a positive representative of the club's culture, helping to foster a welcoming,
respectful, and inclusive squash community.
Member Services and Administrative Responsibilities
Provide the Director of Squash with regular updates on participation, upcoming
programming, member concerns, facility needs, and opportunities for growth.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Squash to coordinate court usage, programming
calendars, shared events, and overall department communication.
Support the development and delivery of youth squash programming, using innovative
coaching methods to accommodate diverse abilities and learning styles.
Programming and scheduling responsibilities may evolve based on member demand
and overall business needs.
Team Collaboration
Lead individual lessons, clinics, and programs that contribute directly to member
engagement and revenue generation.
Collaborate with other professionals on shared programs, clinics, and services, ensuring
equitable contribution and fostering a team-oriented environment.
Contribute to overall squash program growth through both individual programming and
collaborative initiatives that enhance participation and member experience.
Facility Standards
Regularly monitor court appearance, equipment, cleanliness, safety issues, and member
use of the squash areas, and report concerns promptly.
Take an active role in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and professional
presentation of the squash facilities, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and high-quality
environment for all members.
Qualifications
Proven ability to work with both beginners and advanced players while maintaining a
high-energy, team-oriented attitude.
Significant playing and/or coaching experience to attract and retain a dedicated clientele.
Commitment to continuous professional development and innovation in coaching
practices.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role requires the ability to:
Demonstrate squash techniques and physically participate in coaching activities
Stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
Lift and move equipment as needed
Work in an active athletic club environment with varying noise levels and activity
Schedule Expectations
This role requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and participation in
club events, programs, and tournaments as needed.
This role is expected to maintain a consistent and visible presence within the squash
program to support member engagement and overall program success.
Compensation
Compensation includes a base salary and commission-based earnings tied to lessons, clinics, youth programming, and overall program participation.
The compensation structure is designed to recognize both:
Core member service and administrative responsibilities (base salary), and
Direct revenue-generating activities such as lessons, clinics, and program delivery
(commission-based earnings).
Compensation structures may be adjusted from time to time in accordance with business needs and applicable law.
