Seasonal employees are not eligible for the City of Olathe's health plan or other City benefits, including KPERS.Apply today and help support a cleaner, more sustainable Olathe!The Solid Waste Laborer performs the activities and operations of the assigned solid waste collection work group supporting the collection of residential, commercial, curbside recycling and bulky item refuse. Pickup of material may be by manual, semi-automated or automated methods.Key ResponsibilitiesAssists with daily route assignments and transports refuse to the Solid Waste Transfer Station or approved disposal/recycling/composting facility as directed; uses a variety of work methods in the completion of collection work assignments which include manual, semi-automated, and automated methods based on assignment.Prepares vehicle for daily operations by conducting a pre-operation inspection of the vehicle and equipment to evaluate proper working condition; cleans inside and outside of vehicle when needed; makes minor repairs and adjustments when required; coordinates with supervisor for proper maintenance to be performed.Completes daily reports and related documentation and correspondence for all operations and activities within the area of responsibility.Responsible for completing work in a manner that supports and is consistent with the safety culture of the division; ensure the adherence of safe work practices and procedures; ensures compliance with Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.Cooperates with immediate supervisors to ensure customer service requests are resolved; responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.QualificationsExperience: One year of related work experience is preferred. Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
