The Rhode Island Department of State is looking for a Data Indexer & Analyst to test and analyze options for retrospective conversion of an historic index of legislative action from print card catalog representing the work of the General Assembly from 1902-1989 to an electronic data set and searchable, public database. The position will work with samples from the print index and a working data set to test options for the application of several AI tools to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the conversion. The Data Indexer & Analyst will document methodology and test results and make recommendations for the ongoing workflow that will be required to complete the project.
This is a temporary, grant-funded position. The Data Indexer & Analyst will work on-site in the RI State Library and in collaboration with the State Librarian and Director of Data Analysis. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, highly motivated and have experience working with complex data sets and various AI applications. The position requires a person who has a strong desire to turn data into information that is easily accessible and understandable. The Data Indexer & Analyst's work will contribute to State Library's efforts to enable the Department of State to achieve its mission: promoting transparent government, supporting businesses, and strengthening our democracy through a commitment to civic engagement, secure elections, and empowering voters.
Up to 35 hours /week; No more than 200 hours to be scheduled between September 28, 2026 - December 18, 2026
