Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a mass spectrometry scientist and analytical protein chemist with a consistent track record in biopharmaceutical protein support, scientific eminence, and leadership and mentoring skills. You will be part of the BEAM group, providing scientific and technical expertise to support early discovery research through to later-stage molecule optimization and late-stage selection of the client's pipeline of drug candidates. This position is an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing, and delivering innovative human therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct protein, peptide, and glycan analysis and characterization using mass spectrometry techniques, including RPLC-MS, RPLC-MS/MS, native-MS, and other hyphenated MS analytical capabilities.
• Perform auto-digestion and/or peptide mapping.
• Generate reports and communicate the resulting data and associated reports to the project team to support the diverse early-stage pipeline.
• Experience using analytical characterization techniques such as RPLC-MS for intact protein, reduced, and subunit protein mass analysis.
• Experience generating, processing, and using large LC-MS analytical data sets.
• Communicate (verbal and in written) scientific concepts and results.
• Work independently in advancing projects and studies within required deadlines.
• Follow protocols and procedures, maintain accurate records in an electronic lab notebook.

Required Skills

• Liquid chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), protease digestion, intact protein analysis, and peptide mapping.

Preferred Skills

• Experience using high-throughput MS like Rapidfire-MS.
• Experience with protein digestion and RPLC-MS/MS to map protein sequence and characterize post-translational modifications such as deamidation, isomerization, and oxidation, and associated data processing.
• Experience with both ESI and MALDI techniques.
• Knowledge of multiple mass spectrometric (MassHunter, XCalibur, MassLynx) and chromatographic (ChemStation, Chromeleon) control software. Knowledge of GeneData Expressionist data processing software is a plus.
• Knowledge of statistical processing of data, including related software such as, but not limited to, Excel, Spotfire, or JMP.
• Master's or PhD-level qualification with an emphasis in mass spectrometric analytical characterization.

Education Requirements

• Doctorate degree; OR
• Master's degree and 2 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent; OR
• Bachelor's degree and 4 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent (with Master's degree); OR minimum 4 years with a Bachelor's degree.
