Scientist I (Microbiology)

Assignment Length: one year (with the possibility of extension)
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday day shift on site
Pay is $33.40-34.61
Must be able to supply your own laptop

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform collection, processing, and testing of various materials including raw materials, bulk products, and finished products
  • Maintain inventory of testing supplies, temperature monitoring, water sample collection and testing
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and other duties as assigned
  • Apply general knowledge of SOPs, USP, and other applicable pharmacopeias
  • Support the review, data generation, and/or writing of technical documents such as:
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Laboratory investigations
  • Test protocols
  • Annual Product Reviews (APRs)
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), safety training, and regulations
  • Attend GMP training on the schedule designated for the role
  • Adhere to strict compliance with all applicable procedures
  • Identify, report, and seek correction for deviations in a timely manner
  • Exercise the highest level of integrity in all tasks performed
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in manufacturing and hazardous environments
  • Assist in coordination efforts during emergencies (spills, fires, etc.)
  • Take necessary action to eliminate and immediately address safety hazards
  • Provide support during regulatory inspections and audits (scribing, document gathering)
  • Systems & Technology
  • Act as a Power User in applicable systems and assigned roles
  • Utilize MS Office and other tools to improve business effectiveness
  • Develop working knowledge of:
  • Electronic batch records and/or automated processes
  • SAP or ERP systems
  • LIMS systems (preferred)
  • Documentation Management
  • Edit documentation such as SOPs and work instructions as necessary
  • Complete and document process steps per documentation directives
  • Perform visual verification of processes and document in the appropriate systems
  • Ensure all activities are documented per GMP requirements
  • Training & Development
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and curriculum owner
  • Partner with the training department to create training materials and curricula
  • Ensure all required trainings are completed on time
  • Actively participate in all assigned training programs
  • Investigations
  • Assist in gathering information and documentation as required
  • Participate actively in laboratory investigations
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Complete Process Excellence (PE)/Lean awareness training
  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement implementations and Kaizen events
  • Understand and apply PE tools in daily work activities
  • Leadership
  • Serve as a job expert that less experienced personnel can go to for guidance
  • Provide leadership in the absence of supervisors for short periods
  • Facilitate departmental meetings and assist in coordinating other scheduled meetings

Education Requirements
  • Degree: Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Preferred Fields: Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Science, Medical Technology, or related science
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of GMP/GLP quality control laboratory experience in a:
  • Pharmaceutical environment
  • OTC environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of GMP regulations
  • Ability to identify and communicate GMP gaps
  • Basic knowledge/exposure to a LIMS system (preferred)
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to integrity, collaboration, and ethical behavior
Physical Demands
  • Capable of performing routine laboratory activities
  • Ability to perform light to moderate lifting
