    Position Summary

    The Science Laboratory Technician I is responsible for providing support and assistance in a science laboratory setting. This position works and performs entry level lab tasks, including assisting in maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the laboratory. The technician may also be involved in preparing and sterilizing samples, following safety protocols, and documenting experimental procedures and results.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Prepares and distributes instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
    • Provides non-instructional support to faculty during laboratory sessions.
    • Maintains organization and storage of materials, supplies, and equipment in stock rooms and laboratories.
    • Assists with chemical hygiene, waste disposal, and laboratory safety programs.
    • Conducts regular inventory audits for consumable supplies, tools, and equipment; maintains accurate inventory reporting documents.
    • Manages and reports Program of Study budgets for assigned programs.
    • Receives requests for supplies and equipment, researches vendors, obtains quotes, and submits purchase requests.
    • Assists with procurement for program Grants, Perkins Grant, Capital Equipment Replacement, and identified Student Fees supplies.
    • Tracks and receives orders for requested purchases; coordinates delivery or pick-up with Shipping and Receiving department.
    • Serves as Asset Coordinator for program capital assets; conducts annual equipment inventory.
    • Conducts annual Chemical Inventory and maintains accurate SDS records in assigned labs.
    • Transfers equipment between campuses as needed.
    • Ensures availability and proper use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ensures laboratory equipment is properly utilized by faculty and students; performs general equipment maintenance and repairs.
    • Employees must comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols,
    • OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Completion of post-secondary coursework in chemistry or equivalent and one (1) year of directly related higher education or commercial chemistry laboratory experience.

    Preferences:

    • 1 year of experience with scheduling
    • 1 year of experience with digital Inventory management systems

    This position requires regular travel between all CNM campuses and is eligible for mileage reimbursement.


    Ability to regularly work standard business schedule, Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00pm. Position is full-time, in-person/non-remote, 40 hr./week.
