Job Description
Title: Van Driver (Civil Service Title: School Transportation Driver)

Qualifications:
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills

- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or higher.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment (Per 8 NYCRR § 156.3(b)(2)).
- Qualified to be employed as a School Transportation Driver per Civil Service, NYS Education Department guidelines, and 8 NYCRR § 156.3(b)(4).
- Possession of a valid Class C New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's license with appropriate restrictions and endorsements at the time of appointment, and maintenance of such license throughout the tenure of employment in the position.
- Ability to pass a qualifying physical exam.
- Demonstrate good eye-hand-foot coordination and good spatial perception to enable good judgment of distance for safe and precise passing, braking, and parking.
Responsibilities: Shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Attend meetings as needed.
- Follow directives (written, oral, electronic).
- Regular use of school email.
- Operates small passenger vehicles (vans/cars) to safely transport students and/or school personnel to and from school, extracurricular activities, athletic events, field trips, appointments, and other authorized activities according to established routes and time schedules.
- Conducts daily vehicle safety and operational inspections including checking tires, lights, fuel, oil, fluid levels, and general vehicle condition.
- Maintains proper student behavior and orderly conduct in the vehicle while driving.
- Assists students to get in and out of the vehicle as necessary, including students requiring specialized supervision or accommodations.
- Notifies Director of Transportation and appropriate school personnel of any mechanical defects, maintenance needs, accidents, unsafe conditions, or hazardous road/bridge conditions.
- Keeps assigned vehicle clean and orderly, including interior cleaning, windshields, windows, and mirrors.
- Completes daily record sheets and logs relating to mileage, student counts, incidents, vehicle condition, and required reports.
- Observes all rules, regulations, policies, traffic laws, and procedures regarding qualifications, safe operation of vehicles, and personal characteristics.
- Conducts emergency evacuation drills and responds appropriately to emergencies.
- Maintains data security as applicable and maintains confidentiality with staff, student, and family information.
- Operates in a respectful, responsible manner.
- Other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Starting Salary: $21.10 per hour,as per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the CSEA Unit
