Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a School Resource Officer located in Fort Mill, SC. As an SRO with FMPD, you will serve as the primary law enforcement presence in an assigned school, ensuring a safe learning environment while building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide security and law enforcement services for your assigned school.
- Patrol school grounds, monitor security systems, and respond to unusual or suspicious activity.
- Investigate school-related crimes and safety matters; take law enforcement action when necessary.
- Develop and implement school safety plans in coordination with school administration.
- Protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors against threats, theft, and property damage.
- Assist in medical emergencies on school grounds.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students to prevent juvenile delinquency and support conflict resolution.
- Work alongside guidance counselors and support staff to connect students with service agencies when needed.
- Participate in school and extracurricular activities as appropriate.
- Serve as the liaison between law enforcement, school administrators, and local juvenile authorities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of FMPD's mission.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
What we Expect from You (Qualifications)
- South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class One officer certification required.
- Specialized law enforcement training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain any additional related certifications.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong communicator with a demonstrated ability to connect with youth, school staff, and community members.
- Sound judgment and critical thinking skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work involves both indoor & outdoor duties, exposure to all weather conditions.
- Physical tasks include walking, running, bending, lifting (light to heavy), restraining persons when necessary.
- Use of a variety of law enforcement tools and equipment.
- Risk of exposure to infectious materials, life-threatening situations.
