POSITION SUMMARY

School psychologists are advocates for students' well-being. Psychologists use their advanced training in human development, behavior, and mental health to help students excel in the school environment. These professionals work to improve their students' lives across a number of areas, including helping with academic performance, boosting social functioning, working to resolve behavioral problems, and supporting emotional health. Performs related work as required. Works with general supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Databased Decision Making and Accountability

  1. Collaborates to analyze program evaluation data at the system level.

  2. Designs, implements, and evaluates the implementation integrity, fidelity, and effectiveness of interventions in academics and social emotional learning at the individual, group, and system level.

  3. Provides leadership in collecting data to identify service gaps in meeting the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or developmental needs of children.

  4. Makes recommendations for school and/or district level improvements based on evaluation findings.

  5. Uses results of monitoring activities to guide additional refinements of professional practice at the individual, group, and systems level.

  6. Advocates for use of culturally and linguistically responsive, valid and reliable assessments ensuring current measures and norms are used.

  7. Conducts comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations.

  8. Leads teams in functional behavioral analysis and behavior intervention plan process.

Interventions and Instructional Support to Develop Academic Skills

  1. Serves as a leader in a multi-tiered system of support, which includes assessment action teams, student support teams, assisting in identifying students in need of instructional support, identifying metrics, analyzing data, developing rates of improvement, and progress monitoring.

  2. Collaborates with administrators and teachers to apply current and empirically based research to the selection and development of instructional strategies for academic and social-emotional learning.

  3. Advocates for and provides culturally competent services for all students.

Interventions and Mental Health Services to Develop Social and Life Skills

  1. Provides direct skills-based instruction individually or in small group settings.

  2. Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of school screenings, programs, interventions, and progress monitoring as part of the student services team.

  3. Provides professional development on social-emotional needs of children and comprehensive models to promote mental health.

  4. Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based interventions by applying culturally responsive, trauma-sensitive strategies that support student success within a multilevel system of support.

Preventive and Responsive Services

  1. Promotes respectful, supportive, inclusive, and optimal learning environments and a commitment to quality instruction and services.

  2. Identifies factors that have an impact on family/school partnerships, interaction with community providers, and demonstrates sensitivity to issues related to dis-proportionality of diverse learners.

  3. Leads in creating accommodation plans, suicide risk assessments, individual education program and Section 504 assessments/case management, functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans.

  4. Provides crisis management and support including real-time response and intervention.

  5. Partners with school counselors to coordinate services when programming for children involves multiple agencies.
