Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide comprehensive behavioral and academic support to special education students. The role involves working with individuals across elementary, middle, or high school levels who present more intensive needs, specifically within Emotional Support and Autistic Support classrooms. Working independently or in cooperation with educational teams, the assistant ensures the implementation of effective educational programs while maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom teachers by delivering targeted instruction to individual students or small groups across cognitive, gross and fine motor, feeding, and self-help skill areas.
  • Monitor, control, and guide student behavior in strict accordance with established guidelines and positive behavior intervention support policies.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene routines, including washing hands and faces, toileting, and changing diapers or clothing as needed.
  • Assist students with braces and other orthopedic equipment, safely lifting, positioning, and repositioning students to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Partner with teachers to maintain the health and safety of physically handicapped students by proactively monitoring the environment for potential hazards.
  • Collaborate effectively with case workers, general education teachers, and specialized staff while assisting the lead teacher in maintaining records related to student progress.
  • Actively assist and guide students during social interactions and help prepare them for mainstreamed classes according to established procedures.
  • Attend periodic, specialized training and in-service sessions related to medical interventions and instructional programming as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Prior experience working with special needs students, specifically within Autistic Support or Emotional Support environments, is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to implement positive behavior intervention strategies and maintain classroom guidelines effectively.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting, positioning, and assisting students with orthopedic equipment or mobility constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to work cooperatively with case managers, teachers, and specialists.
