The Art History Program on the Tempe and Online campus at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in: Art History including global heritage, contemporary art, animation history, Asian art, Chinese art, South Asian art, Indigenous art and museums, sculpture theories, or focused segments such as curatorial practices, philosophy of art, or the intersection of art and spirituality.
These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).
The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.
Anticipated start date is: Fall 2026 or Spring 2027, session A, B and/or C
Essential Duties
- Prepare and deliver course content, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, critiques, and other teaching activities in accordance with the approved syllabus and academic standards.
- Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Assist students through office hours, seminars, or online forums.
- Support course administration as needed (e.g., syllabus preparation, coordination with teaching assistants, keeping accurate course records).
- Teach in one or more of the following modalities: in person, online, or hybrid.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting subject to extended periods of standing, lecturing, facilitating classroom activities
- Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Occasional activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
