JOB SUMMARY: With overall guidance, the School Nurse collaborates as a vital participant in a student's comprehensive well-being, fostering both short-term and long-term health. Their role encompasses safeguarding student well-being, supporting optimal growth, and enhancing academic achievements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately maintain records and practices nursing standards of care as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
Maintains an unencumbered nursing license throughout employment.
Prepares efficient and accurate reports as required by supervisor.
Maintains school health supplies and ensure that appropriate measures are in place to secure any/all regulated substances. Union County Public Schools Job Description
Conduct vision screens for students and follow up where necessary
Applies remedial measures in response to identified deficiencies observed during audits.
Conducts home visits when appropriate
Documents relevant health data, i.e., immunizations, health findings, office visits appropriately
Assist with transportation based on student's 504/IEP
Serves as a resource on health issues 11 Initiates case management with students, as needed
Participates in departmental, district level and other meetings/committees as directed by supervisor 13 Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary/Medium - Must be able to exert up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally, and up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 5 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift and/or carry 30lbs. Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoors exposure to outside weather conditions Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
