Title: School Counselor (High School)

Reports to: High School Principal

Job Summary:

The School Counselor addresses the students in a holistic manner with the responsibilities as contracted. Assists with the Catholic Christian formation of the students. Actively participates in the faculty community. Recognizes and promotes the philosophy of SMCS and supports the Catholic commitment to education.

Responsibilities:

• Provide individual/small group social, academic and career counseling
• Support and consult with parents, staff and administration
• Collaborate with the Director of Student Services for programming and student needs as needed
• Develop, implement and/or coordinate programs
• Conducts conferencing with students/parents
• Inservice staff on guidance program/procedures
• Plan/organize course selection process including course selection night
• Coordinate placement testing for incoming freshmen
• Sets master class schedule
• Assist with student schedule changes
• Active participant in student services meetings
• Oversee job shadow opportunities
• Facilitate process of application submission for National Merit Scholarship finalist
• Coordinate all college board testing and make requests for accommodations
• Coordinate, update and communicate scholarship information
• Facilitate developmental guidance programs
• Participate in planning to meet student educational, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual needs
• Act as liaison between school and community resources
• Coordinate, distribute, collect, and disseminate results of standardized tests to the appropriate people
• Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies
• Prepare guidance portion of family newsletter
• Coordinate and implement career education programs & materials
• Process senior applications for college, technical schools, etc. including writing recommendations and supervising the electronic or mailed transcripts/supplemental materials
• Make students aware of job opportunities
• Supervise academic record keeping
• Coordinate college counselor visits
• Attend luncheons for scholarships, awards, etc.
• Acts as liaison between colleges and students to identify college requirements
• Maintain permanent student files including international students
• Demonstrates proficiencies in the use of technology with SMCS hardware, software and applications.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Masters degree in counseling
• Current Wisconsin DPI Certification
• Diocesan religion certification (completed or actively in progress)
• Submission to legal background check
• Demonstration of faith commitment
