    School Bus Monitor
     
     
    Job Summary:
    The School Bus Monitor ensures the safety and orderly conduct of students while they are being transported to and from school, field trips, or other school-related activities. This position assists the driver with supervision, student behavior management, and securing students with special needs, while maintaining a safe and respectful bus environment.
     
         Key Responsibilities:
     
    • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus in a safe and orderly manner.
    • Ensure students remain seated and follow all safety rules while the bus is in motion.
    • Provide assistance and supervision to students with disabilities or special needs, including use of seat belts, safety vests, and wheelchair restraints.
    • Maintain order and discipline on the bus and report any behavioral issues to appropriate school staff.
    • Communicate respectfully with students, parents, bus drivers, and school personnel.
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip checks to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the bus.
    • Respond to emergencies and follow proper procedures in the event of accidents or medical situations.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
     
        Qualifications:
     
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Experience working with children or in a school setting preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.
    • Must pass background check and required training (first aid, student management, etc.).
     
     
    Physical Demands: 
    • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to assist in lifting students (up to 50 lbs.) when necessary.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and stretching required to assist students with boarding, seating, and restraints.
    • Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength and mobility in confined or moving spaces.
    Work Environment: 
    • Work is performed primarily on a moving school bus with exposure to varying weather conditions.
    • May be exposed to bodily fluids, loud noise levels, and disruptive student behavior.
    • Must be able to maintain focus and ensure student safety while the vehicle is in motion.
    • Early morning and afternoon hours with occasional mid-day field trips or extended days.
