JOB DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This role is part of our school-based behavioral health program, providing face-to-face consultation and support directly within the school setting. As a School-Based Behavioral Health Liaison (SBBHL), you will work closely with students, families, teachers, and school staff to promote positive, trauma-informed environments and support the emotional and behavioral well-being of children and youth.
The SBBHL provides consultation to classroom teachers to assist them in creating positive, trauma-informed classroom environments that enhance the learning experience for children at risk of developing emotional or behavioral problems, substance use disorders, or who have serious emotional disturbance (SED). Training and education regarding childhood mental health, trauma, and trauma-informed behavioral responses are incorporated into consultation to help teachers promote healthy and supportive learning environments.
In addition to classroom consultation, the SBBHL provides psychoeducational groups and other support to youth identified by teachers and/or school officials. The SBBHL also serves as a liaison between families and the school and, when invited, assists parents and youth with the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process and trauma-informed support plans.
This position is an integral part of a collaborative school-based team focused on prevention, early intervention, and strengthening connections among students, families, and schools.
