Scholar Substitute Teachers will serve on an as-needed basis when regularly assigned program teachers are unavailable.The successful candidate will provide a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment while implementing activities, assignments, and instructional plans established for the Scholars Program.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide instruction and supervision for students participating in the Scholars Program.Follow lesson plans, instructional activities, and program expectations provided by the regularly assigned teacher or program administrator.Maintain an orderly, positive, and safe learning environment.Provide appropriate academic assistance and enrichment activities to students.Monitor student attendance, participation, and behavior.Implement appropriate classroom and behavior-management strategies.Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school personnel.Follow all Boone County Schools policies, procedures, and safety requirements.Communicate any significant student, behavioral, safety, or instructional concerns to the appropriate administrator.Maintain professional conduct and serve as a positive role model for students.Perform other duties related to the Scholars Program as assigned by the building principal or program administrator.QualificationsApplicants must:Meet all requirements established by the West Virginia Department of Education to serve as a Teacher/substitute teacher.Possess or be eligible to obtain the appropriate West Virginia substitute teaching permit or authorization.Successfully complete all required employment screenings and background checks.Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, abilities, and educational needs.Demonstrate effective communication, organizational, and classroom-management skills.Be dependable and available to work on an as-needed basis.Preferred QualificationsPrevious teaching, substitute teaching, tutoring, or educational experience.Experience working with students in after-school, extended-learning, summer, or enrichment programs.Familiarity with Boone County Schools instructional and behavioral expectations.Terms of EmploymentEmployment will be on an as-needed basis based upon student enrollment, program needs, staff availability, and funding.
