SAP FICO Architect
Location: Hybrid or Remote Wilmington, DE
Salary: 140-170K
The SAP FICO Architect will own the architecture, design, configuration, and governance of the global SAP Finance and Controlling landscape. This role combines enterprise-level solution architecture with hands-on SAP FICO configuration, ensuring scalable, standardized solutions across global operations.
The Architect will serve as the senior functional authority for SAP FICO, partnering with Finance, IT, PMO, technical teams, and AMS resources to lead global template governance, implementations, integrations, optimization, and the ongoing S/4HANA roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and govern the global SAP FICO architecture and template, maintaining design integrity, global standardization, and controlled localization across regions.
- Maintain a strong hands-on configuration focus (~50%) across GL/New GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Cost Center and Profit Center Accounting, Internal Orders, Product Costing, CO-PA, and Banking/Treasury.
- Lead end-to-end FICO solution architecture across requirements, fit-gap analysis, solution design, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.
- Serve as the design authority for SAP FICO, reviewing solution designs and ensuring adherence to architectural standards and finance process requirements.
- Lead FICO architecture and delivery for global SAP implementations, rollouts, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
- Architect and review FRICE objects including Forms, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, and Enhancements in partnership with SAP technical teams.
- Design and govern integration between SAP FICO and MM, SD, PP, PM, as well as third-party platforms such as Concur, Vertex, Onstream, and AP Essentials.
- Define and drive the SAP FICO/S/4HANA roadmap, identifying simplification, automation, standardization, and continuous-improvement opportunities.
- Provide functional leadership for AMS operations, including SLA performance, incident/problem/change management, root-cause analysis, and service improvement.
- Ensure reliable execution of month-end and year-end financial close, partnering with Finance, Shared Services, and AMS teams to resolve issues and improve close performance.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across Finance and Controlling processes, particularly within month-end close.
- Provide functional leadership and mentorship to SAP FICO team members and coordinate across global Finance and IT stakeholders.
- Evaluate opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies within ERP Finance and Controlling to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and create measurable business value.
Qualifications
- 9+ years of SAP FICO functional experience, including significant experience in SAP S/4HANA environments.
- Demonstrated experience operating as an SAP FICO Solution Architect, Lead, or senior functional design authority.
- Deep hands-on configuration expertise across GL/New GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Cost Center Accounting, Profit Center Accounting, Internal Orders, Product Costing (CO-PC), CO-PA, and Banking/Treasury.
- Minimum 3 full-cycle SAP implementations within complex or multinational organizations.
- Proven experience with global template design, governance, and multi-country SAP rollouts.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end integration between FICO and MM, SD, PP, and PM.
- Experience designing and governing interfaces and integrations between SAP and third-party financial applications.
- Strong knowledge of S/4HANA Finance architecture, capabilities, and simplification opportunities.
- Experience supporting or overseeing SAP AMS operations, including SLA, incident, problem, and change management.
- Experience leading globally distributed SAP teams and working across multiple business units, regions, and time zones.
- Strong ability to translate complex Finance and Controlling requirements into scalable SAP architecture and functional designs.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence Finance, IT, technical teams, and senior leadership.
- SAP S/4HANA Finance certification preferred.
- Interest or experience applying AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or Cortex to ERP Finance and Controlling use cases is highly desirable.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is not simply an SAP FICO configurator or people manager. This individual is a hands-on SAP FICO Architect who can establish the strategic design direction, challenge requirements, make architecture decisions, and then work directly in SAP to configure and deliver the solution.
Success in this role requires the ability to balance architecture, hands-on execution, global governance, and business partnership within a complex enterprise SAP environment.
