Pay Rate: $17.09/hour
Position Overview
The Materials Handler is responsible for collecting, sorting, and transporting recycling, trash, and other waste throughout the university campus. This is a hands-on, physical position that involves working both indoors and outdoors.
Main Responsibilities
- Collect and remove recycling, trash, and waste from buildings and designated areas
- Empty and reline trash and recycling containers
- Sort recyclable materials into the proper containers
- Pick up and dispose of bulk trash and recycling
- Transport materials to designated disposal or holding areas
- Drive a truck, van, or other university vehicle to make pickups around campus
- Use equipment such as hand trucks, compactors, balers, and forklifts as needed
- Keep outdoor areas, parking lots, garages, and loading docks clean
- Maintain equipment and work areas
- Assist with special events, move-ins, snow emergencies, or other campus needs when necessary
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable with continuous walking, standing, and climbing stairs
- Able to work outdoors and in different weather conditions
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Must be comfortable interacting with university staff, students, and visitors
- Recycling or materials-handling experience is helpful but not required
- Experience driving a manual transmission is a plus
