Description
The City of Simi Valley is seeking a team‑oriented self‑starter to join our Public Works Sanitation Division as a Wastewater Plant Operator I, II, or III (depending on experience).
Plant Operators perform a variety of skilled technical and semi‑skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater treatment plant, including: Operating and maintaining plant equipment, performing adjustments and repairs, and collecting and documenting samples for laboratory testing.

Job Description:
Plant Operator I/II/III
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess:
Strong technical aptitude and a solid understanding of water or wastewater treatment processes.
A strong safety mindset and committed to maintaining high operational standards.
Hands‑on experience operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting plant equipment (pumps, motors, valves, feeders, meters, SCADA systems).
Strong attention to detail and maintains accurate logs, records, and reports.
Experience performing routine lab sampling and testing and collaborates effectively with laboratory staff.
Excellent communication skills, follows established procedures, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Reliability, adaptability, and readiness to perform physical tasks, including facility maintenance and equipment repair.
Experience operating heavy equipment safely and competently when required.
A commitment to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, safety protocols, and operational standards.
For Operator II: Increased independence, broader operational understanding, and sound technical decision‑making.
For Operator III: Provide lead supervision, trains and mentors staff, coordinates work activities, and contributes to developing goals and procedures.
