Description

Overview:

Salon Manager (BTC1 / BTC2)

Lead a Team. Grow Your Career. Keep Doing What You Love Behind the Chair.

At JCPenney Salon, we believe great salon leaders shouldn’t have to choose between leading a team and being a stylist. As a Salon Manager, you get the best of both worlds: the opportunity to coach, inspire, and grow a talented salon team while continuing to build your own clientele and earn commission behind the chair.

You’ll play a key role in creating an exceptional salon experience, developing future beauty professionals, growing the business, and helping your team reach their full potential.

And because we believe leadership should be rewarding, you can work up to 8–16 hours per week behind the chair, depending on salon volume, while earning 50% commission on your service sales and 10% commission on retail sold with a service.

If you're a passionate stylist ready to take the next step—or an experienced salon leader looking for an opportunity to stay connected to the craft—this could be the perfect fit.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

  • Lead without leaving the chair: Continue serving your own clients and growing your personal book of business while leading your salon team.
  • Earn more from your talent: Receive 50% commission on service sales and 10% commission on retail sold with a service.
  • Make an impact: Develop stylists, celebrate their successes, and help them build rewarding careers.
  • Build your leadership skills: Gain valuable experience in coaching, recruiting, business performance, client retention, merchandising, and team development.
  • Create your salon culture: Build an environment that is inclusive, professional, supportive, energetic, and fun.
  • Grow with a recognized brand: JCPenney Salon has been serving clients for generations and continues to provide opportunities for beauty professionals to grow.

What You'll Do

Create an Exceptional Client Experience

You’ll lead by example and set the standard for outstanding service.

  • Provide professional hair services, including cuts, styling, chemical services, and other services across all hair types.
  • Deliver thorough consultations and personalized recommendations that make every client feel valued.
  • Coach stylists on creating memorable experiences that encourage rebooking, referrals, and long-term client loyalty.
  • Motivate and recognize your team through consistent communication, coaching, and encouragement.
  • Build an atmosphere where clients feel comfortable, welcomed, and excited to return.

Develop and Inspire Your Team

Your success is measured not only by what you accomplish, but by the people you help succeed.

  • Recruit talented stylists through social media, referrals, recruiting platforms, local salons, and cosmetology schools.
  • Provide frequent, meaningful, and balanced coaching and feedback.
  • Identify individual strengths and opportunities for growth.
  • Create learning opportunities that help stylists advance throughout their careers.
  • Encourage participation in JCPenney's Core and Artistic Education programs.
  • Build a team culture centered around loyalty, passion, professional growth, respect, and fun.
  • Celebrate associate accomplishments and create opportunities for your team to shine.

Drive Salon Performance

You’ll have an opportunity to influence the success of your salon and your team.

  • Review salon performance reports and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish priorities and action plans around productivity, referrals, rebooking, return rates, and client acquisition.
  • Identify root causes and coach your team toward measurable results.
  • Manage salary costs and resources to support the salon's profit plan.
  • Set clear expectations and help your team understand how success is measured.
  • Adapt to changing business needs while keeping the team focused on results.

Own the Salon Experience

From the front of the salon to the backbar, you’ll help ensure the salon looks, feels, and operates at its best.

  • Follow SET merchandising standards and make adjustments based on salon layout.
  • Walk the salon and backbar regularly to identify merchandising, replenishment, and recovery opportunities.
  • Address or delegate product-related issues that affect the client experience.
  • Manage backbar expenses responsibly and according to plan.
  • Help maintain a professional, organized, and welcoming salon environment.

Lead With Accountability

As a Salon Manager, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference by setting the example.

  • Consistently meet performance expectations for service sales, product sales, productivity, client experience, and attendance.
  • Follow company programs, hiring practices, and applicable state safety regulations.
  • Ensure team members understand expectations and have the resources they need to succeed.
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable while recognizing and celebrating progress.

The Best of Both Worlds

You don't have to give up being a stylist to become a leader.

At JCPenney Salon, you can continue doing what you love behind the chair while expanding your career through leadership. You'll have the opportunity to build your clientele, earn commission, mentor other stylists, influence business results, and develop your leadership skills—all in one role.

JCPenney emerged more than 100 years ago as a small mercantile store serving families on the American frontier in the Old West. Today, we’re still pioneering new frontiers by challenging the old rules of retail and creating a shopping experience that merges the intimacy of a traditional store with the digital conveniences of personal technology.

Today, JCPenney is one of the nation’s largest apparel and home retailers with over 860 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico, and a powerful e-commerce site, jcp.com. The retail landscape is more competitive than ever, creating new opportunities to differentiate and streamline our business. With 98,000 hard-working associates around the globe, we have the talent and determination to succeed and be the best retailer for American families.
