\nPosition Summary:
\nA growing chemical distribution company is seeking a Sales Manager to work directly alongside ownership with the long-term goal of eventually leading the sales organization. This is not a traditional
\ncorporate sales management role focused only on reporting and administration — the company wants someone who can lead from the front, earn the respect of sales reps, understand margins and
\nprofitability, and help drive long-term business growth.
\nThe current team consists of 5-7 senior sales representatives who operate independently and 12 junior sales representatives requiring coaching, accountability, and day-to-day management. This role is designed as a succession-focused leadership opportunity with direct mentorship and
\ntraining under ownership during the first year.
\nKey Responsibilities:
\n- Work directly with ownership to learn the business, customers, and sales strategy
\n- Manage, coach, and develop junior sales representatives
\n- Support accountability, activity management, and sales execution across the team
\n- Monitor gross profit performance and maintain strong margin discipline
\n- Help drive territory growth and customer retention
\n- Review pricing, profitability, and deal structure with a margin-first mindset
\n- Build trust and credibility with both senior and junior sales reps
\n- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of future sales talent
\n- Analyze sales performance, trends, and pipeline activity
\n- Assist with strategic growth planning and expansion opportunities
\n- Work cross-functionally with operations, purchasing, and leadership teams
\n- Eventually transition into broader leadership responsibility over the sales organization
\n- Travel within California (~30%) to visit customers, sales reps, and the Chino office
\nRequired Qualifications:
\n- MUST have hands-on chemical distribution sales experience — 5-10 years within chemical distribution specifically
\n- MUST currently reside in California
\n- Previous experience in sales leadership, team management, or mentorship
\n- Strong understanding of margin management and profitability
\n- Proven ability to develop customer relationships and close business
\n- Strong analytical and numerical skills
\n- Experience managing or supporting multiple sales reps
\n- Comfortable with ~30% in-state travel, expenses covered by client
\nStrong Plus:
\n- Experience leading both senior and junior sales teams
\n- Existing relationships within industrial, chemical, manufacturing, or distribution markets
\n- Experience managing compensation or incentive-driven sales teams
\n- Experience scaling territories or sales organizations
\nNice to Have:
\n- Background in specialty chemicals, industrial chemicals, or related distribution sectors
\n- Experience working in entrepreneurial or privately owned companies
\n- Exposure to GP-focused sales environments
\nIdeal Personality Profile:
\n- Hustler mentality with strong business instincts
\n- Analytical and commercially aware
\n- Humble but confident
\n- Strong communicator who earns respect naturally
\n- Long-term mindset and leadership maturity
\n- Comfortable balancing accountability with relationship-building
\n- Hands-on leader willing to stay involved in the business
\nWhy This Opportunity Stands Out:
\n- Direct mentorship from ownership
\n- Clear succession path into senior sales leadership
\n- Existing sales infrastructure already in place
\n- Strong long-term income potential
\n- Remote flexibility with client-covered in-state travel
\n- Opportunity to shape and scale a growing sales organization
\n- High-visibility role with real influence on company growth
