    Description

    Overview:

    Herzog Energy, Inc. is currently seeking qualified a Safety Specialist in Burns, NY to join our team.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    *This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

    • Support implementation of project safety, health, environmental, and compliance programs for renewable energy construction projects.
    • Maintain a strong field presence and conduct routine safety inspections and observations.
    • Identify hazards and work with employees, supervisors, and subcontractors to implement corrective actions.
    • Review JHAs, JSAs, Pre-Task Plans, and other hazard assessments before work begins.
    • Monitor safe work practices involving civil, mechanical, electrical, heavy equipment, excavation, rigging, LOTO, and commissioning activities.
    • Assist with incident, near-miss, property damage, and environmental investigations and corrective-action follow-up.
    • Support employee orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and task-specific training.
    • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and verify required training, certifications, and qualifications.
    • Maintain safety records, inspections, incident documentation, corrective actions, and project safety performance data.
    • Serve as a safety coach and field resource while promoting Stop Work Authority and Herzog's Safety Without Compromise culture.
    • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
    • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Related Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Three years of construction safety experience preferred.
    • Renewable energy, solar, electrical, heavy civil, or power-generation experience preferred.
    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction required or must be completed within the company-established timeframe.
    • OSHA 510 preferred; OSHA 500 is a plus.
    • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
    • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and common construction hazards.
    • Ability to conduct field inspections, review hazard assessments, and assist with incident investigations.
    • Strong communication, computer, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in an active construction environment and coach employees, supervisors, and subcontractors while promoting Safety Without Compromise.

     

    Pre-Employment Requirements:

    • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
    • Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
    • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
    • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

    • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
    • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
    • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
    • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
    • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
    • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
    • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
    • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
    • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
