    Description

Amazon"s North American Surface Transportation Safety & Compliance team (NAST S&C) is looking for a Compliance Analyst to join Safety Monitoring. Safety Monitoring assesses carrier safety performance against Amazon"s standards. We use FMCSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) data and Amazon"s Violation Rate Metrics (VRM), and we take action when a carrier falls below the standard.

This role can be assigned to third-party (3P) carrier monitoring or to monitoring for Amazon"s own fleet, Transportation Operations Management (TOM). The core work is the same in both. You will run recurring monitoring steps on a fixed schedule, pull and validate data, keep every case record current, and report results. The work follows written procedures and thresholds. Each result can drive an enforcement or safety action, so you will check the data before it moves. You will report to the Safety Monitoring manager and escalate anything that falls outside the procedure.

    Key job responsibilities

Pull safety data from FMCSA SMS and internal sources on the monthly schedule.

Validate every record against source data before it goes out, reconciling counts, spot-checking individual records, and documenting each check.

Maintain SIM and Asana so the current status of every case lives in one place.

Prepare recurring metrics for business reviews, including suspension and reinstatement counts, exception outcomes, inspection results, and cycle timeliness.

Maintain procedure documents and recommend process improvements.

Escalate data discrepancies, new case types, and anything with possible legal exposure.

Prepare the monthly BASICs and VRM suspension and reinstatement lists against the written thresholds.

Log carrier exception requests, build each case file against the written criteria, and present cases at the weekly exception review.

Record every review decision as granted, denied, or pending final review.

Submit suspension and reinstatement tickets to Carrier Health and confirm they are actioned.

Send carrier notifications from approved templates once a decision is recorded, answer carrier questions about their status, and route anything outside the templates to your manager.

Monitor carriers under review each week for new violations, out-of-service events, and safety rating changes.

Run the same monitoring steps for Amazon"s own fleet, tracking roadside inspection results, out-of-service events, violations, and BASICs results for TOM.

Report trends and open items to TOM safety and operations leaders on a set schedule.

Flag changes that need attention, such as a rising violation rate or a new out-of-service event, to your manager and TOM safety leaders.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
