OHLA USA is seeking a Safety Manager to support the PortMiami North Bulkhead Realignment Project, a large-scale marine and heavy civil infrastructure project. The Safety Manager will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, conducting inspections, leading safety training, and supporting incident prevention efforts across all project activities.
Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and pre-task safety meetings.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific safety plans.
- Identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and stop unsafe work when necessary.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain safety records, inspections, incident reports, and OSHA documentation.
Risk Management
- Support safe execution of excavation, crane operations, marine work, structural steel erection, utility relocation, confined space entry, and other high-risk activities.
- Verify competent person requirements and permit compliance.
- Monitor traffic control, fall protection, and over-water work activities.
Emergency Response & Training
- Assist with implementation of emergency response and hurricane preparedness plans.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action tracking.
- Conduct new hire orientations and ongoing safety training programs.
- Maintain training records and certifications.
Communication & Coordination
- Work closely with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and corporate safety leadership.
- Participate in safety meetings and support project audits and inspections.
Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of construction safety experience in heavy civil, marine, infrastructure, or industrial projects.
- Experience with OSHA compliance, safety inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.
- Marine construction, port, or waterfront project experience strongly preferred.
Required Certifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- TWIC Card (or ability to obtain)
- Competent Person Training (Excavation, Fall Protection, Scaffolding)
- Knowledge of Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communication, and Silica Exposure Control
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA Maritime Training
- HAZWOPER 40-Hour
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety
- FDOT MOT / Temporary Traffic Control
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of OSHA construction regulations.
- Ability to identify hazards and implement effective corrective actions.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits, and safety training.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment
- Full-time, onsite position located at PortMiami.
- Outdoor work in a marine construction environment.
- Must be able to walk active construction sites, climb ladders and structures, wear required PPE, and lift up to 50 lbs.
