Expected Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 per year

The Safety Manager will develop, implement, and administer a health and safety program on site for a U.S. federal secure construction project in the Northern Territory of Australia. The Safety Manager will ensure compliance with local regulations, as well as company policies and client requirements. The Safety Manager promotes a proactive safety culture by identifying hazards, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, and providing safety training to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, subcontractors, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions

• Develop, implement, and maintain the project’s Site-Specific Safety and Health Plan (SSHP).
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, project specifications, client requirements, and company policies.
• Conduct daily site safety inspections to identify hazards and verify corrective actions are completed.
• Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and new employee orientations.
• Review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Pre-Task Plans with project teams and subcontractors.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and property damage events, and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions.
• Coordinate emergency response procedures, drills, and evacuation planning.
• Monitor subcontractor safety performance and enforce project safety requirements.
• Maintain all required safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, permits, and regulatory compliance records.
• Coordinate with project management to integrate safety into project planning and scheduling.
• Stop work when imminent hazards or unsafe conditions are identified and ensure corrective actions are implemented before work resumes.
• Participate in safety meetings and inspections.
• Promote continuous improvement through hazard recognition, employee engagement, and safety awareness initiatives.

 Skills / Specifications

• Demonstrable expertise in federal construction project and site safety requirements, controls, oversight and communications.
• Practiced ability to administer each element of a safety program for a large federal construction project, with appropriate reporting and issue-raising to company management.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

 Supervisory Responsibility

 This position does not require the supervision of direct reports.

 Work Environment

This job operates in construction environments, inside and outside, in all weather conditions, and in professional offices. The employee must routinely use tools of the construction trades and standard office equipment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb, and stand. Regular lifting up to 75 lbs. may occur.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position located in the Northern Territory of Australia. Must be willing and available to relocate for an assignment of up to 24 months. Typical hours are 40+ hours per week. Weekends and holidays may be required.

Travel

No travel is required other than to and from the construction site in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of construction safety management experience, including experience working on commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or government construction projects.

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

• Must have and maintain a Top Secret federal security clearance with eligibility for SCI.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and Australia.
• Must be able to pass federal contract OCONUS deployment requirements published by the US Government from time to time.
• Must successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) background check.
• Must successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug test and motor vehicle record review.
• Must possess a valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID requirements.
