Job Title: Safety Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Safety Maintenance Technician maintains a safe, compliant, and fully operational facility by inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and improving building systems, equipment, and safety infrastructure. This role combines industrial maintenance expertise with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) responsibilities to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce operational risk, and support a zero-incident safety culture. The technician uses strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of OSHA regulations to identify and correct workplace hazards before incidents occur, while supporting facility safety programs, preventive maintenance initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair building systems, equipment, and safety infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable facility operations.
  • Support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs by applying OSHA regulations and safety standards in daily maintenance activities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and correct workplace hazards proactively to prevent incidents and support a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on facility and industrial equipment to diagnose issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to plan and execute maintenance and repair tasks accurately.
  • Implement and support preventive maintenance programs, including scheduling, performing, and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software to track work orders, maintenance history, and equipment performance.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and validation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to control hazardous energy.
  • Ensure proper machine guarding and safety controls are in place, maintained, and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to verify compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards.
  • Participate in incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support continuous improvement programs focused on enhancing safety, reliability, and efficiency of facility operations.
  • Communicate maintenance findings, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities clearly and professionally in written and verbal form.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, safety inspections, incident investigations, and compliance records.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and safety personnel to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational disruptions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Safety, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Certified Safety Technician (STSC) or a similar safety credential.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or industrial environments.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience up to 480V.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, and fall protection certifications.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience building and validating Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs.
  • Knowledge of machine guarding requirements and best practices.
  • Strong OSHA compliance and safety auditing skills.
  • Proficiency in hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and documenting findings.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using CMMS software to manage maintenance activities.
  • Background in continuous improvement programs focused on safety and reliability.

Work Environment

You will work around complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and use CMMS software and standard maintenance tools and equipment. The setting is typical of a manufacturing or industrial test facility, with active machinery, safety protocols, and structured maintenance and safety procedures. Work may involve standing, walking, and working in proximity to operating equipment, following all applicable safety rules, personal protective equipment requirements, and facility guidelines.

This is a Contract position based out of West Lafayette, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
