Project Scope
This role supports a full-service structural steel contractor that provides comprehensive services including design support, detailing, fabrication, and field erection of steel structures. The organization delivers projects across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure markets, including structural steel systems, miscellaneous metals, and retrofit work.
The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing safety operations across Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, supporting projects from preconstruction through installation. This position requires a strong balance of strategic leadership and hands-on field involvement, with an approximate split of 60-70% office-based work and 30-40% time spent in the field.
The role leads company-wide safety initiatives, ensures OSHA compliance, manages risk exposure, and drives a proactive, best-in-class safety culture across fabrication and erection operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction, or related field
OSHA 500 preferred
CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred
Minimum 10 years of construction safety experience
Minimum 5 years leading structured safety programs
Experience with a self-performing GC or specialty contractor preferred
Strong working knowledge of OSHA and construction safety regulations
Proven leadership and team management experience
Strong communication and presentation skills
Valid driver's license required
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel monthly and quarterly across FL, VA, and PA
Comfortable working in both office and active construction environments
Experience overseeing claims management and loss control programs
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage company-wide safety initiatives and loss control programs
- Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA-compliant safety policies and procedures
- Drive a proactive safety culture through leadership, training, and engagement
- Oversee safety training programs to meet regulatory and operational requirements
- Lead incident investigations, hazard assessments, and corrective action planning
- Analyze safety and claims data to identify trends and reduce risk
- Manage and develop the safety team across multiple regions
- Oversee the full claims lifecycle, including reporting and performance tracking
- Maintain OSHA logs and ensure accurate compliance reporting
- Prepare and present safety metrics and insights to executive leadership
- Lead safety committees and administer safety incentive programs
- Manage the motor vehicle records (MVR) program
