Location: Manteno, IL
Hire Type: Contract
Compensation: $30-35/hr

Overview:
Our client is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support workplace safety within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This hands-on role will focus on identifying hazards, conducting inspections, supporting employee training, investigating incidents, and maintaining OSHA compliance. The position will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, Sanitation, Quality, and HR to promote a strong safety culture. 

Job Duties: 

  • Maintain a visible presence on the production floor and operational areas to identify and address safety hazards.
  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, observations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support OSHA compliance and workplace safety programs, including LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomics, and chemical safety.
  • Coordinate and deliver new hire, refresher, and job-specific safety training.
  • Assist with JHAs, risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety records, training documentation, SDSs, and OSHA-related documentation.
  • Track safety metrics, incidents, trends, and training completion for leadership.
  • Partner with Production, Maintenance, Sanitation, Quality, and HR on safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
  • Support emergency preparedness, safety committee activities, workers' compensation, and return-to-work processes.

Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of workplace safety/EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety practices.
  • Experience with safety inspections, employee training, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, and ergonomics.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with employees and spending significant time on the production floor.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Safety, EHS, or a related field preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred; bilingual skills are a plus.
