    Position Summary

    The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist supports GSA's national safety program by providing expert guidance, policy interpretation, and oversight across a nationwide portfolio. This role serves as a subject matter expert in occupational safety, compliance, and risk management while supporting inspections, training, and program development for federal facilities and construction projects.

    Duties

    • Provide expert guidance on occupational safety, hazard control, and regulatory compliance under OSHA, GSA, and other applicable federal standards
    • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) across safety disciplines including construction safety, electrical safety, fall protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), and hazard analysis
    • Conduct facility and construction site inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments; develop and track corrective action plans
    • Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and recommend preventive and corrective measures
    • Review construction, renovation, and project design plans to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements
    • Develop, update, and deliver safety policies, technical guidance, and training programs for staff and contractors
    • Support national safety program tracking, performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Represent GSA in meetings and coordination with other federal agencies, regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA), and external stakeholders
    • Maintain accurate safety data, inspection records, and documentation to ensure compliance with federal reporting standards

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Demonstrated experience applying OSHA standards (General Industry and/or Construction, 29 CFR 1910/1926)
    • Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and hazard assessments
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing training materials and policy documents
    • Ability to travel to various sites within an assigned region

    Preferred:

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or OSHA 500/510 certification
    • Experience in a federal, government, or large multi-site organizational safety program
