Job Title: Safety Ambassador Lead (Round Rock, TX)

Job Description

The Safety Ambassador Lead provides on-site leadership for autonomous delivery operations in the Round Rock and greater Austin area, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, incident readiness, and consistent execution of safety standards. This role serves as the primary field escalation resource and coach for Safety Ambassadors, coordinating daily deployments and routes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, performance, and public interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support Safety Ambassadors in daily field operations, acting as a player-coach who actively participates in and oversees activities.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all operational and safety procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate daily deployment plans, including staffing coverage, route execution, and resource allocation.
  • Verify readiness of fleet, vehicles, and equipment before and during operations, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for incidents, operational disruptions, and unexpected events in the field.
  • Conduct regular safety observations and reinforce best practices to maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Support onboarding, training, and certification activities for new and existing Safety Ambassadors.
  • Track operational performance metrics and prepare reports to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Drive process improvements by partnering closely with operations and technical teams to refine procedures and workflows.
  • Communicate field updates, risks, and resource needs clearly and promptly to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in multi-stage candidate evaluation activities as needed, including physical readiness, situational judgment, technical orientation, and communication assessments.
  • Represent the operation professionally in public settings, responding to inquiries and supporting de-escalation and media interaction scenarios when required.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in field operations, logistics, transportation, robotics, or safety-related environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in operations or safety-sensitive settings.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to coach, give clear instructions, and manage conflict effectively.
  • Comfort with mobile devices, basic controller operation, and data logging procedures.
  • Ability to maintain at least 7+ hours of active outdoor field escort duties across varied terrain.
  • Sound situational judgment and incident response decision-making aligned to standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public, including handling inquiries, de-escalation scenarios, and potential media interactions.
  • Willingness and ability to work 10-hour shifts plus a 1-hour lunch on a structured schedule.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in safety-sensitive operations such as military, consumer electronics, or technical field roles.
  • Experience as a technician, including electrical technician, mechanical technician, robotics, or avionics.
  • Prior service in military branches such as Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard is highly relevant but not required.
  • Project management and supervision experience in operations, logistics, or transportation environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track metrics, follow detailed procedures, and complete documentation accurately.
  • Interest in autonomous delivery technologies and willingness to learn new tools and systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving project environment with changing operational needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in the Austin, Texas area, with worksite operations around Campo Del Sol Parkway in Buda, supporting autonomous delivery activities in Round Rock and nearby locations. The position involves primarily outdoor field work across varied terrain and requires extended periods of active escort duties alongside autonomous vehicles and related equipment. Shifts are structured as 10-hour workdays plus a 1-hour lunch, with front-end leads typically scheduled Monday through Thursday from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and back-end leads Friday through Sunday during the same hours. You will work closely with operations and technical teams, using mobile devices, controllers, and data logging tools in a safety-focused environment. The project is planned for 3-4 months with completion bonuses, overtime availability, and potential extension into 2027, offering a dynamic, technology-driven setting where safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement are central to the culture. Dress and attire should be appropriate for outdoor field work and safe operation around vehicles and equipment.

This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
