Paraprofessional/Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher Job Description Qualifications:

1. Holds West Virginia Department of Education Paraprofessional certificate.
2. Ability to read, write, compute, and communicate.
3. Demonstrated ability to relate to adults, students and parents in a positive and supportive manner.
4. Demonstrates proper usage of written and spoken grammar.
5. Ability to work in a team and/or inclusion model.
6. Hired in a Kindergarten or Pre-K Classroom.
7. Holds WVDE Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher authorization or must agree to complete required coursework. Immediate Supervisor: School Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
8. Performs duties in a support capacity such as facilitating the classroom teacher in the instructional process.
9. Performs direct or indirect supervision of students under the direction of a principal, teacher, or another designated professional educator.
10. Maintains positive work habits within the school environment.
11. Upgrades knowledge of current instructional practices.
12. Performs duties efficiently and productively.
13. Assists teachers in monitoring student activities.
14. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with teachers, other school staffs and parents.
15. Attends additional inservice training specific to area or programmatic assignment.
16. Demonstrates courtesy and cooperation in dealing with persons both internal and external to the school site.
17. Provides basic clerical and record keeping assistance to the teacher.
18. Assists in lunchroom monitoring and other types of student related activities.
