    Division of Human Resources Job Title: Coordinator, Transportation Route Services - SPED Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Director of Transportation Pay Grade: BP03, 230 Days Dept/School: Transportation Date Revised: September 2026 Primary Purpose: Responsible for overall coordination of Special Needs Transportation services. Maintains constant communication with school administrators and parents concerning Special Needs Transportation. Daily coordination of all Special Needs bus routes to ensure that they are all running as scheduled with a certified driver and monitor. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Texas Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification. High school diploma or equivalent with additional appropriate education and or training. Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). Certified Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor. (Preferred) Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Official certification. (Preferred) Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification (Preferred). Special Knowledge/Skills: Must pass school bus driver physical examination for physical and emotional stability. Bilingual (Preferred) Effective verbal and written communication in English. Ability to effectively teach and instruct groups of students, including both adults and children. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Knowledge of applicable transportation laws, regulations, policies, and best practices, including requirements related to transporting students with disabilities. High Level of proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Google Suite. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with established procedures Effective organizational skills, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of local roads, subdivisions, campuses, attendance zones, boundaries, and individual school programs. Knowledge and ability to assist with the preparation of specific state and federal reports. Ability to interpret ARD decisions and understand their impact on student transportation services. Knowledge of TEA rules, regulations, and requirements related to school bus routing and transportation. Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Experience: Five years applicable school transportation experience, preferably including experience with special needs transportation. Three years supervisory experience Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    1. Coordinate and develop all district special program routes in accordance with TEA guidelines.

    2. Monitor ridership of bus routes and create/consolidate routes when needed.

    3. Coordinate all extended school year routes.

    4. Attend ARD meetings when necessary. Hays Consolidated Independent School District

    5. Identify areas within special education that are non-compliant with federal and state regulations and guidelines for transporting students with disabilities.

    6. Develop and implement an effective training program for existing as well as new special education drivers and monitors.

    7. Develop and implement annual Special Needs In-Service program.

    8. Select, maintain, and ensure high standards for all special needs transportation equipment.

    9. Attend continuing education conferences and seminars on transportation issues to ensure the department remains in compliance with all federal and state guidelines as well as uses "best practice" for all safety issues.

    10. Set up and facilitate annual training sessions for CPR/AED and First Aid as well as SAMA.

    11. Coordinate daily bus operations to ensure all routes are covered.

    12. Assist in preparation and submit TEA Route Services Report as required.

    13. Serve as a substitute or extra-curricular trip driver of bus support when needed and meet all bus driver or support performance responsibilities.

    14. Responsible for performing duties of Coordinator of Route Services- Regular Ed in his/her absence.

    15. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate performance of designated employees.
