JOB SUMMARY
Rotating Machinery Services Inc. is seeking a Rotor Balancing Technician to perform mechanical assembly, inspection, precision measurement and balancing operations on turbomachinery components and rotating assemblies. The ideal candidate will have experience with rotating equipment, turbomachinery, mechanical assembly, or a related field. RMS is also willing to train a mechanically inclined candidate who demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn. This position requires the ability to work with precision equipment and large rotating components while following procedures, drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform Phase I and Phase II inspection, as well as final build / balance on new and used Rotating Elements (and sub-components) for RMS and non-OEM turbomachinery including: Axial, Single Stage Overhung, Horizontally and Vertically Split Multi-Stage, and Oil Free Screw Compressors; Hot Gas Expanders; Steam Turbines; and other rotating equipment as needed
- Experience operating rotor balancing equipment and balancing systems, such as Easy Balance and Schenck systems
- Perform precision measuring, pre-stack dimensional inspections, and pre / post overspeed inspections
- Familiar with subcomponents in Rotor Shop including impellers, sleeves, balance pistons, shafts, etc.
- Ability to perform visual inspections with ability to identify and communicate key findings
- Ability to work safely with large and heavy rotating equipment and components, including rotors weighing 20,000+ pounds, using appropriate lifting equipment and procedures
- Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures, and instructions.
- Assemble components in accordance with procedures, drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
- Perform precision balancing on components and rotating assemblies to specified requirements.
- Use calipers, gauges, micrometers & other measuring tools to determine the condition of components and assemblies.
- Assemble various configurations of components to corresponding assembly prints utilizing available tooling, gauging and equipment.
- Generate inspection reports as required and assist with documenting quality issues and solutions.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area and embrace 5S metrology.
- Ability to understand assembly and manufacturing prints.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years of experience with rotor balancing, turbomachinery, rotating equipment, mechanical assembly, or related manufacturing/repair environment.
- Experience with final assembly, inspection, or repair of rotating equipment.
- Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, machining, or mechanical repair environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- The position may be based in RMS’s Pasadena, TX facility.
- This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends may be required based on company and project needs.
- This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
- Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
- Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
- Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.(with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
- Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage
- While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift
- Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug, alcohol screening, and background check.
- Authorized to work in the United States
- RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may work / enter a shop or field service environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise
