Robotics Systems Engineer

Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on Robotics Systems Engineer (2–4+ years experience) to join our autonomous haulage team. In this role, you will take autonomy capabilities from prototype to reliable performance on real autonomous trucks across multiple OEM platforms. You will own system-level integration, sensor calibration, diagnostic builds, and technical bring-up for production-ready vehicles deployed internationally.

What You’ll Do

• Vehicle System Integration: Own system-level integration across sensors, compute, networking, and software stacks to ensure robust performance on real heavy vehicles.
• Platform Bring-Up: Lead technical execution for new truck platform bring-ups, collaborating with hardware teams on sensor integration, calibration, and tuning across various OEM brands.
• Prototype to Production: Take autonomy features from initial concept and testing to reliable field performance, bypassing pure simulation in favor of real-world deployment.
• Diagnostics & Validation: Build diagnostic tools, validation criteria, and release gates for production readiness across an expanding global fleet.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with planning, controls, operations, and safety teams to deliver mission-critical autonomy in high-stakes mining environments.

Requirements & Qualifications

Dealbreakers (Must-Haves)

• Hands-On Autonomy Experience: Hands-on experience with autonomy deployment and systems integration on real vehicles/robots.
• Core Programming: Strong proficiency in Python and C++.
• Location: Must work on-site 5 days a week in San Francisco, CA (SoMa). Relocation assistance available.

Baseline Qualifications

• Experience: 2–4 years of industry experience in robotics or autonomous vehicle systems engineering.
• Platform Experience: Track record of bringing new vehicle or robot platforms from prototype to production.
• Technical Stack: Experience with Linux-based robotics systems (ROS, system diagnostics).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Travel: Willingness to travel up to 15% to customer mine sites worldwide.

Nice-to-Haves

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Robotics or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience working with perception interfaces and camera processing pipelines.
• Background in sensor fusion, calibration workflows, or CAN bus interfaces.
• Prior experience at autonomous vehicle companies (e.g., Tesla, Waymo, Aurora).
